What can I find on ArtistAlley.ca?

ArtistAlley.ca helps you discover Canadian creators, explore their work, and find them at fan conventions across Canada. Our directory is made up of artists who appear in the designated Artist Alley section at comic-cons across Canada. We automatically update appearance information as it’s posted by each show.

Convention webpages only display their artist list for a short while before and after the event, so it can be hard to track down the name of that cool booth you saw after the show has ended. Artists who expand their profiles can add logos, links to socials and online shops, and update their future convention appearances before each show releases info on their website. (If an artist hasn’t claimed their profile here, check the event website for one of their upcoming convention appearances – some of these include a link to the artist’s homepage or social media.)

How do I find upcoming conventions?

Open the Conventions directory to browse – the default view displays upcoming events by date. You can narrow the list by year, month, province or territory, city, and event status (past or upcoming).

We only list conventions that have designated Artist Alley sections, as otherwise it can be difficult to differentiate artist/creator booths from the larger commercial vendors that also attend these events. There are many more fan conventions in Canada – try sites like fancons.ca to discover them all!

How do I save an artist to my favourites?

Create a free account or sign in, then click the heart icon on an artist card or profile. Your saved artists appear in the Favourite Artists area of your dashboard, which is found in the Membership section.

How can an artist manage their profile?

The basic artist profiles are created and appearances updated throughout the year based on the artist alley vendor lists released by fan conventions.

Artists can claim and expand their profile with an active membership. Claims are reviewed before profile ownership is transferred. Memberships unlock a host of additional fields and functionality:
    – add a bio, artist name, home city and province
    – add links to your socials and online shop
    – add category tags to help promote your business to fans searching the database for their favourite products
    – make your profile more eye-catching with a logo or photo of your booth/art
    – self-manage your convention appearance list and add info on future shows early, to help your fans plan their convention schedule and budget
    – advertise if you take commissions from fans looking for custom items, or offer shipping in Canada for fans outside your area

Why have a database – why not just find these artists at a convention?

Not everyone lives near or can travel to the biggest shows, and ticket prices can put attending in person out of reach for many. Artist alley convention booths can cost over a thousand dollars for a single weekend, and depending on what the artist creates, it can be difficult for them to travel and bring their products to events outside of their local area. Our goal is to bring down barriers and make it easy for fans and artists to connect between convention weekends, outside of the show floor, and all across Canada.
